And now this...a fellow teacher at the school has been suspended due to supporting these two teachers in a foul language rant on facebook. Basically saying there are teachers who have been putting out for students (particularly senior males) for years, and the students should have just kept their mouths shut and enjoyed it.

    http://www.nydailynews.com/news/cri...nding-co-workers-sex-arrest-article-1.2089014

Would you want your teenage daughter in a classroom with this guy? I'm glad he made his post and that it was discovered. His true colors came shining through. How a teacher could make the statements he did without recognizing the offensive nature of his words (to parents of children at that school) is beyond me. This guy has no business being put in front of a bunch of impressionable teenagers. The fact that naive students (who don't have a full understanding of the issues at play here) are coming to his defense is indicative of this. No doubt he sees flirtatious behavior between students and teachers as just a perk of the job...and if it goes beyond that, so long as everyone keeps their mouths shut, it's perfectly fine.

This school has some SIGNIFICANT issues with the cultural mindset of it's teachers. Within a brief period of time three teachers are accused of sex with students, and another teacher is publicly defending them and saying the students should just shut up and enjoy it....perhaps they should put a microphone in the faculty break room and get a feel for the conversations that are really going on between teachers about their students. It seems academics aren't the only thing being discussed.

Neither is facing sexual assault charges, despite initial allegations by investigators that there may have been inappropriate contact between one of the instructors and a teen on the trip ... prosecutors determined that there was “insufficient evidence to prove beyond a reasonable doubt” that a sexual assault occured.

News reports now say charges related to sex a with an underaged student and conspiracy have been dropped. Why? Not because the sex didn't happen, nobody disputes that. But Because prosecutors were not confident they could prove beyond a reasonable doubt that these teachers knew one of the students involved in the sex was under 18.

All highschool teachers know that while some seniors are 18 years old, many are still minors. But apparently, the prosecutors felt that so long as the teachers didn't specifically ask whether or not any of the kids were under aged there was no way of proving beyond a reasonable doubt that they knew one of the kids involved was only 17. Apparently, the prosecutors felt that so long as the kid looked mature enough to the teachers they were under no obligation to ask before the sex occurred. So while they should have known to ask, as long as they didn't and they continue saying they just assumed everyone was of age, prosecutors are apparently powerless to do anything about it. Pretty bogus reasoning if you ask me. The article does say that the sex charges could be reinstated at a later date and that the investigation continues. Anyways, aren't there still laws in CA prohibiting teachers from having sex with students regardless of whether or not they are 18?

New info was provided that the two teachers were dropped off and/or picked up at the beach by another teacher. Currently there are three additional teachers who have been suspended over this event. The guy mentioned in my post above, as well as two other teachers (a husband and wife). No reason was given as to why they were suspended...but clearly they had some involvement or knowledge of what was taking place.

Once again, SIGNIFCANT culture issues exist at this school with regards to their staff.

Teachers accused of sex with minors to appear in court

The arraignment of two female teachers accused of having sex with male high school students during a beach camping trip at a San Clemente beach was postponed on Tuesday to March 4, an Orange County judge ruled. Michelle Ghirelli, 30, of West Covina and Melody Lippert, 38, of Covina are each charged with one misdemeanor count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor by illegally providing them with alcohol, according to the Orange County district attorney’s office. Proceedings were continued partly because prosecutors haven't turned over their investigation to attorneys, and partly because prosecutors may tack on additional charges against the pair, said Ghirelli's attorney Stephen DeSales.

DA files charges against Covina-Valley teachers for having sex with students, giving them cocaine

Orange County prosecutors Monday said two female South Hills High School teachers supplied cocaine to students at a beach party where they also had sex with the teens. Teachers Melody Lippert, 38, of Covina, and Michelle Ghirelli, 30, of West Covina, each could go to state prison for more than a decade if convicted, officials said. A party, involving the two women and five male students, occurred in San Clemente between Dec. 27 and Dec. 29 on a camping trip, according to a press release. “At some point during the trip, Lippert is accused of facilitating Ghirelli’s sexual relationship with 17-year-old John Doe,” The press release said. “Ghirelli is accused of engaging in unlawful sexual intercourse with John Doe and orally copulating the victim.”Prosecutors allege Lippert organized the trip by sending a group text message to Ghirelli and the five male students.

I'll bet Ghirelli is wishing she'd never met Lippert. Sounds like the older teacher didn't do Ghirelli any favors inviting her along for playtime with the students and encouraging her to hook up with the 17 year old.

I'm pleased illegal sex charges were reinstated. Given the student teacher relationship, I figured the sexual activity was still illegal even if the boys were all over 18. Ghirelli saying she thought the kid she gave oral sex to was 18 and didn't think it necessary to ask him his age before bumping uglies was soooooo bogus. What highschool teacher isn't aware that many seniors have yet to turn 18?

The cocaine charges were unexpected. But the school administration apparently knew through their own investigation that there was significantly more to this event than what was originally reported. Five teachers have lost their jobs over this event. The two women, their buddy who defended them in his Facebook post, and the other teacher couple (the Andersons) who we've yet to be informed of their role. Time will tell...perhaps we'll find out tomorrow during the court procedings.

This article points out that it was the school district's investigation that uncovered the cocaine use and sparked renewed interest by the sheriffs dept to re-interview individuals involved, resulting in the new charges.

    http://mynewsla.com/orange-county/2015/03/04/former-female-teachers-arraigned-felony-sex-charges/

Kinda makes one wonder about the competency of the investigation by the sherriffs dept. They seemed ready to let these women off the hook with simple misdemeanor charge. While I think there are still significant issues with the mindset and culture of the teachers at this school that still needs to be addressed, I applaud the aggressiveness of their investigation which was clearly better than that of the responsible authorities.
