Statesboro Police Department Press Release: Third Arrest in SHS Sexual Assault Investigation Press Release 05/09/2014 Public Safety Director Wendell Turner Statesboro Police Department 25 West Grady Street Statesboro, GA 30458 The Statesboro Police Department has made another arrest in the ongoing Statesboro High School Sexual Assault investigation. On 05/09/2014 Statesboro High School Principal Martin Waters was arrested at the Statesboro Police Department and charged with Failure to Report Child Abuse. During the course of the investigation, Statesboro Police Detectives learned Waters was informed as early as March of 2014 of suspected child abuse between Assistant Coach Jeffery Crowder (previously arrested) and a female student. The information was first reported to police on April 25, 2014. The Statesboro Police Department investigation has revealed that Waters failed to report the suspected child abuse to the proper authorities in the time required by law. The Bulloch County Board of Education and the Central Office has cooperated fully with the Statesboro Police Department throughout the investigation. Waters is being held in the Bulloch County Jail. This investigation is ongoing and no further information is being released at this time. UPDATE: Charge Dropped Against Former Statesboro High School Principal 16 Feb 2015 Dr. Martin Waters was charged with failure to report child abuse. Police said he knew about a suspected inappropriate relationship between an employee and student in March but didn't report it until April. In court Monday, the Bulloch County Solicitor General said there wasn't enough evidence to convict Waters beyond a reasonable doubt that he knowingly and willfully failed to report the incident.
