    No plea offer will be extended to Virginia Vertetis, Assistant Prosecutor Matthew Troiano said during an early disposition conference in Superior Court in Morristown ... Vertetis is charged with murder and possession of a firearm in the death of Patrick Gilhuley, 51, of Staten Island. He was found shot and killed inside Vertetis’ home in Mount Olive, according to police and the prosecutor.

    Wharton teacher arraigned on charge of murdering ex-beau in Mount Olive

    A lawyer representing a former Wharton schoolteacher charged with fatally shooting her boyfriend in Mount Olive entered a plea of not guilty on her behalf at her arraignment Tuesday. Virginia Vertetis, 52, was indicted in September by a Morris County grand jury on charges of murdering Patrick Gilhuley on March 3 in Mount Olive, and with possessing a handgun for an unlawful purpose.

    A former grade school math teacher who has been charged with fatally shooting her boyfriend while he was on the phone with his daughter two years ago plans to argue she acted in self-defense, her attorney said Tuesday.
