    Since pleading guilty Shannon has had a tough time abiding by the conditions of her probation. If she's not careful it looks like she could end up doing some hard time in the slammer.

    SEGUIN — The former high school teacher who allegedly violated her probation just days after pleading guilty to having an improper sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student will be back in court Nov. 5.

    Shannon Rae Spradlin, 31, of New Braunfels, was scheduled to appear Wednesday before 274th Judicial District Judge Gary Steel on a motion to revoke probation filed by 25th Judicial District Attorney Heather McMinn’s office.

    Spradlin resigned her teaching post at Seguin High School in March after the allegations against her became known.

    Under terms of her probation, she was ordered to surrender her teaching license, register as a sex offender, pay a $1,000 fine plus court costs, perform 400 hours of community service and remain on probation for 10 years. Had she been convicted at trial, she faced up to 20 years in prison.

    Spradlin, now being held at Guadalupe County Jail on $250,000 bail, had turned herself in to answer a bench warrant Steel issued on Sept. 10 after probation officials reported she’d violated several conditions of her probation.

    According to court documents, she:
    • Failed to report to the Guadalupe County Community Supervision and Corrections Department on Sept. 2 and 3 as directed;
    • Failed to notify her probation officer within 24 hours of a change in residency;
    • Failed to register regarding her address or future address, change in employment, vehicle, online identifiers and or appearance; and
    • Failed to reside in the home in Vail, Arizona, she told authorities she would be moving to.

    Steel’s options are to continue Spradlin on deferred adjudication probation; adjudicate her guilt, finding her guilty and place her on regular probation as she’s never been in trouble with the law before this case or finding her guilty and sending her to prison for any time between two and 20 years.

    On Wednesday, though, he reset her case for Nov. 5 in the wake of a discovery motion by defense attorney Steven Harkins calling for prosecutors to share whatever evidence they have against his client as he works on her defense.

    Seguin ISD placed Spradlin on administrative leave in late February after learning of the allegations against her. Spradlin turned herself in to police on March 9 as school district administrators and Seguin police detectives were investigating allegations reported by a parent that she was having an improper relationship with the student. She was released the following day, but was re-arrested in August when authorities learned she’d allegedly violated terms of her bail by having further contact with the victim in the case.

    Under the Texas Penal Code, an improper relationship between an educator and student takes place when “an employee of a public or private primary or secondary school ... engages in sexual contact, sexual intercourse or deviate sexual intercourse with a person who is enrolled in a public or private primary or secondary school at which the employee works and who is not the employee’s spouse.”

    Spradlin was hired in 2006 as a teacher’s aide and inclusion teacher, and passed the district’s criminal background checks.
