According to those documents, authorities allege that during the 2009 school year, Grinstead “engaged in a course of conduct to engage in sexual conduct with a student. The defendant was employed as a Davis County High School teacher and the student was a senior” during that time period. The complaint against Grinstead continues: “Sex acts occurred at the apartment of [Grinstead] ... and in the classroom where [Grinstead] taught ... the defendant bought several gifts for the student, and also engaged in physical abuse against the student.” Tags:

KTVO: Former Bloomfield teacher facing more sex charges (Oct 18 2011) The new charges stem from a series of sexual encounters between [Ryan Gene] Grinstead and a minor student at Davis County High School. The most serious of the new charges is Sexual Abuse in Third Degree, a Class “C” felony. The complaint filed by Bloomfield police, says that charge is the result of Grinstead performing multiple sexual acts with the student between October of 2008 and May of 2009. The acts allegedly took place in Grinstead's Bloomfield apartment. Grinstead also faces a misdemeanor charge of Lascivious Conduct with a Minor. The complaint on that charge alleges Grinstead convinced a minor student to text nude pictures of themselves to Grinstead. The third new charge is an additional count of Sexual Exploitation by a School Employee.
WTVO: Davis County sex trial delayed (Feb 27 2012) According to Iowa court records, Ryan Gene Grinstead will now stand trial in June on four felony counts alleging he had sex with two students while employed at Davis County High School.
WTVO: Grinstead's trial scheduled for July (June 4 2012) The trial of Ryan Gene Grinstead, 31, of Bloomfield will begin on Monday, July 23 at the Davis County Courthouse. Grinstead's trial was orginally scheduled to begin next Tuesday, but prosecutors asked for a new date.
KTVO: Former Heartland teacher gets five years in prison (May 29 2013) Ryan Gene Grinstead was found guilty in March of two felony counts of Sexual Exploitation by a School Employee. Grinstead was sentenced to five years on each count, but the judge in the case ordered that the sentences be served concurrently. Grinstead will also face 10 years parole following the completion of his sentence and be required to register as a sex offender.
