The former Algonkian Elementary School art teacher [Ralph Watts Conrad III] arrested in September on child pornography charges has been indicted by a grand jury on 50 counts of possession of child pornography.​

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office was informed by the Department of Homeland Security about Conrad’s alleged activities Aug. 20 and immediately launched a local probe. During the three-week investigation, Conrad was placed under surveillance as investigators worked “to build a case to get probable cause to get a warrant and seize” computers and other equipment from his home, Maj. Richard Fiano, the head of the sheriff’s office’s criminal investigations division, told Algonkian parents during a meeting Sept. 13. ​

The day before his arrest a search warrant was issued for Conrad’s Hamilton home and at 6 a.m. Sept. 10 investigators executed the warrant before he left for school. Several items were seized and a mobile unit from the Internet Crimes Against Children task force conducted initial forensic analysis. What investigators found was enough to place Conrad under arrest at his home.​
