    Our view: Alabama has a teacher sex problem and it needs to stop

    Every time an Alabama teacher is accused of having sex with a student, two things almost certainly occur. First, the state cements its statistical national position as No. 1 in a competition it least wants to lead the nation. Second, Terry Abbott takes notice. Abbott, the former chief of staff of the U.S. Department of Education, in 2014 compiled the statistical record and found that Alabama had the highest per capita number of school employees accused or convicted of sex crimes with students.
