    Ohio educator misconduct reports spiked in 2014

    Reports of educator misconduct spiked in 2014 as state education officials investigated allegations of data manipulation at several schools. The Ohio Department of Education received 9,087 reports of educator misconduct in 2014 — a 10.4 percent increase from the previous year, according to the Office of Professional Conduct's annual report. That represented the largest yearly increase since 2008, the year after fingerprint background checks were enacted. Educators include teachers, superintendents, principals and other school employees such as nurses and coaches. Of those reports, 997 warranted investigations compared to 711 in 2013.
