Among the NRA’s most famous (or infamous) assertions is the following: “The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is with a good guy with a gun.” (They even sell T-shirts with the slogan.) The idea is that “law-abiding citizens” who choose to exercise their constitutional, “God-ordained” right to carry a gun can stop, say, a school shooting well before police arrive.
