    Teacher arrested for ‘sexting’ with 14-year-old student, helping her buy Plan B

    Michael Chase, 51, was arraigned Thursday morning on the charges, which carry a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. His bail was set at $50,000, with the condition that he is to have no contact with any student upon his release. Chase is accused of “sexting” with a female student starting in 2012, when she was just 14, and ending this summer, when she was 17 and went to school officials and the police. According to investigators, the girl said Chase provided her with a phone card “so her parents wouldn’t be aware of such contact.”


    Although the girl maintains they never had physical sexual contact, court documents indicate that Chase provided her with money to pay for the “Plan B” morning-after pill, which was made available over-the-counter to minors in 2013.     ​

    Suspended Dalton teacher arraigned on sexting charges

    Detectives say Michael H. Chase, 51, of Church Street, Dalton, sent inappropriate text messages to a female Tunkhannock Area student, starting when she was 14 in 2012, and continuing until June when she was 17 ... He also directed the girl and other female students to look at a pornographic bondage website, according to court documents. Judge Hovan set Mr. Chase’s bail at $50,000 unsecured.

    Tunkhannock Teacher Charged With Corruption of Minors

    Long-time history teacher and head of the drama department, Michael Chase of Dalton ... Chase was charged with corruption of minors following an investigation that took all summer. At the end of last school year, a female student came forward saying Chase would text her about sex, gave her money for contraception, and sent her links to porn sites.


    According to court papers, Michael Chase started sending text messages to the female student when she was a freshman back in 2012. Their communication continued until the end of her junior year. That’s when the girl told other teachers at Tunkhannock Area what was going on. In a statement to detectives, the girl said Chase often talked about sex and drug use with her and other students. Something other students told Newswatch 16 they did notice among his “favorite” students and members of the drama club. “I kind of suspected that was going on because he was really close to the students and he kind of seemed really awkward about it,” added student Amanda Blankenship.    ​
