Mesilla, New Mexico: Marshals say street jewelry vendor molested girl on field trip

Marshals said that the girl informed one of her classmates, then her teacher, about the attack. The class has since returned to New York, according to marshals.​

Marshals arrested a plaza jewelry vendor after they say he molested a 14-year-girl visiting the area. Matthew Janssen, 59, was arrested Friday and charged with four counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor. In a news release, the Mesilla Marshals Office accused Janssen of molesting a 14-year-old girl who on March 18 was visiting Mesilla from New York on a school trip. The news release said that Janssen, a street vendor who sells jewelry in the plaza, approached the girl and made "sexual comments" about her.
