WFAA: Collin County teacher arrested on child sex charge (May 8 2013)

A Collin County teacher was jailed Wednesday and charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child. McKinney police said Princeton ISD employee Matthew Pappas, 30, was taken into custody around 12:30 a.m. Bond was set at $100,000. "Due to the age of the victim, we will not be releasing any further details at this time," said McKinney police spokesman Sgt. Chad Barker in a written statement.​

A North Texas junior high school teacher has been placed on leave after being arrested for allegedly having inappropriate physical contact with a child. Teacher Matthew Pappas was arrested on Wednesday and charged with Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child ... Princeton ISD administrators sent a letter to parents on May 8. According to that note, Princeton police have verified that the alleged victim is not a Princeton ISD student. Officials also said the purported assault did not take place on school property.​

In a statement released Thursday morning, the district said Pappas has been placed on leave and that investigators said the allegations of sexual assault did not involve a student in the Princeton district and that the alleged incident did not occur on school property.​

Matthew Pappas, 31, was taken into custody after a child under the age of 14told her parents Pappas had touched her inappropriately. The arrest affidavit says the alleged assaults happened on two separate occasions at his house in McKinney.​

He was released on $100,000 bond at 9:20 a.m. that same day. McKinney police say the charge involves a Princeton ISD student, but the crime happened in McKinney. Police declined to release further details because of the student’s age.​

Court documents revealed one of Pappas’ former students, whom he taught when he was an elementary school teacher, came forward with an outcry to her parents. The victim said Pappas and her family are friends and that she and her siblings would frequently visit Pappas’ home and to play and watch movies, the documents stated. The victim told a forensic interviewer that, twice, when her siblings left the room, Pappas had touched her inappropriately while they watched movie, the affidavit stated. When the movie was over, the assault stopped, the documents said.​

Parents received a letter from the school to alert them that a Clark teacher had been "arrested for inappropriate conduct with a child." The letter stated that the victim is not a Princeton ISD student, and that the teacher has been placed on leave.​

 

Very popular teacher for years and year and no problem at all with his work, professionalism, anything. This guy sets the standard for GREAT teachers. Now one teen makes an accusation and his life is ruined. All the kids in school know her and her family and we can't the same about her/them. Maybe the cops should look at them and see what comes out from the shadows. Seems to a lot of us that Mr. Pappas was too nice and got burned.

 

Pappas is a great teacher. No one who knows him believes these accusations. Investigation into the "victim's " family needs to be done. The "victim" herself needs to be looked at also. Her story doesn't make since. Before someone's life is ruined, these accusations, the "victim" herself and her histiry need to be throughly investigated. Pappas' flawless reputation will speak for itself.
