KWTX: Ex-Teacher Charged With Improper Relationship With Student (Feb 19 2014) Ex-Salado Junior High and High School teacher Marcos Rene Garcia, who resigned last week after the parents of a 16-year-old female student came forward with allegations of an inappropriate relationship, was arrested Wednesday and charged with improper relationship between an educator and a student. His bond was set at $35,000. Salado Superintendent Dr. Michael Novotny contacted police after he learned of the allegations on Feb 13. “When we did the investigation...we found out that there have been text messages going on for about a week and a half now between the two of them and the physical contact started just earlier this week,” Novotny said last week. After interviewing the girl and other witnesses, he said he met with Garcia and told him he was going to recommend that the school board fire him. Garcia, who taught math and also coached football and power lifting, opted to resign to avoid that possibility, Novotny said.
