Accused child molester and Irvin High School dance teacher Marco Alferez may soon be terminated from his job. In a statement, EPISD officials tell ABC-7 Alferez's proposed termination will be on the agenda at the next school board meeting ... About 70 minors were allegedly videotaped and exploited by 34-year-old Marco Alferez. In court, federal investigators testified Alferez told them he was "glad to finally have been caught." They said he had more than 100 video tapes at his home. EPISD administrators say during the hearing, witnesses were cross-examined by Alferez's attorney, which allowed appropriate due process. "For the first time, from this court proceeding on Wednesday, EPISD's administration had admissible evidence upon which to recommend termination," the statement read.​

 

El Paso Times: Teacher jailed in child porn case also worked for YISD, Austin HS (Oct 1 2010)

Berenice Zubia, spokeswoman with the El Paso Independent School District, said Alferez has been placed on paid administrative leave. Alferez has taught at Irvin since August 2008, and had also taught at Austin High School from 2004 to 2006.​

A spokeswoman with the Ysleta Independent School District told KFOX-TV that Alferez worked in the district from September 2003 to May 2004 as a guest artist, teaching folklorico under the supervision of other teachers. He also taught in the Ysleta district from August 2007 to June 2008 after participating in the district's alternative certification program, and participated in youthummer camps organized by "Viva! El Paso." Alferez is the principal choreographer for the annual show.​

A high school dance teacher accused of sexually victimizing as many as 70 children will be fired Tuesday by his Texas school district. Marco Alferez, 34, taught dance at Irvin High School in El Paso, Tex., until federal investigators uncovered a massive stash of child pornography in his home last month. Agents from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Office found hundreds of videos of child pornography on two of Alferez’s computers; including videos he made graphically depicting the exposure of children’s genitals, according to the El Paso Times. Feds testified they have been able to identify between 65 to 70 victims on over 200 tapes made by Alferez, including one tape in which he is seen having sex with a child.​

The current board of directors and staff of the El Paso Association for the Performing Arts, which puts on Viva El Paso!, said on Monday that its principal choreographer [Marco Alferez] charged in a federal child pornography case did not participate its camps for children ... He has worked with Viva El Paso! from 2004 through this year as a performer and as the principal choreographer. As a seasonal employee, Alferez had to reapply each season for the job. Robert Andrade, executive director for the El Paso Association for the Performing Arts, said Alferez will not be asked to reapply for the job. He said the organization was already discussing not bringing Alferez back for an unrelated reason prior to Alferez being charged with possessing child pornography.​

 

KTSM: Irvin High Dance Teacher Allegedly Downloaded Child Porn "For Several Years" (Oct 4 2010)

The document describes, in detail, three videos containing child porn that 34-year-old Marco Alferez allegedly downloaded onto his computer ... The feds arrested Marco this week after linking his IP address to the sharing of three videos allegedly containing child porn.​

• According to the criminal complaint, the first video is 2 minutes and 21 seconds long. It shows a prepubescent girl exposing herself to the camera.
• The second video "...depicts 2 completely nude prepubescent females on a bed, bent over..." It gets too graphic to describe after that. The video is 6 minutes long.
• The last video shows a girl lying on a bed being molested by a man and "...the child is observed struggling with the adult male in an attempt to avoid being molested." This video is also 6 minutes long.

"The evidence presented to us was enough for us to move even without a court proceeding," school board President Patricia Hughes said. "We are not saying he's guilty. We are just saying that legally and ethically, we have enough proof to move forward with his termination."​

KVIA: Indictment Reveals More About Child Porn Charges Ex-Teacher Faces (Oct 26 2010)

Authorities collected several cameras, including a Nikon digital camera, Sony digital camera, Canon camera, a web camera, two mini pin hole cameras about the size of a dime, and a mini spy camera that could be easily hidden. The indictment also lists several memory cards, flash drives, thumb drives and a number of VHS tapes depicting sexual activity recovered by federal agents. Some of 107 video tapes had labels "old uppies," "voyeur, " "new uppies female names" and one tape labeled, "Vale DE rehearsal upskirt." Uppie is a slang term for upskirt photography.​

 

KFOX 14: Court Document: Teacher Made Sex Tape On School Property (Nov 10 2010)

Former Irvin High School dance teacher Marco Alferez made a sex tape with a "young girl" on school property, according to court documents ... In addition to "commercially available" child pornography videos, investigators found 182 "hidden camera" videos on Marco Alferez's computer, the document said. According to the court document, two video segments show Alferez having sex with "young girls" -- one time at his home and another time on school property. It said the government has confirmed the identity of one of the victims, and she was a minor at the time of the filming.​
