JAMAl SHAKIR: Look at me in my eyes, bro. Hey, look at me in my eyes.

PAT HARVEY: Protest unrest. A man says his own uncle ordered fellow LAPD officers to fire projectiles at him during a demonstration. Good evening, everyone. I'm Pat Harvey. The entire exchange was caught on camera. The man is now suing the Department and his uncle. CBS2's Hermela Aregawi is live with more on this strange lawsuit. Hermela.

HERMELA AREGAWI: Hi, Pat. Strange, indeed. I mean, this is not a typical case. Jamal Shakir here and his attorneys say it shows that even being family of a police officer doesn't protect you, that blue is thicker than even blood.

JAMAl SHAKIR: Eric, Eric, our ancestors turning over in they grave right now. Our ancestors turning over in their grave right now, Eric.

HERMELA AREGAWI: In this video taken last May in downtown LA, protester Jamal Shakir is talking to his uncle, an LAPD officer whom he suddenly recognizes.

CARL DOUGLAS: Bluer than blood is the story of Eric Anderson and Jamal Shakir.

HERMELA AREGAWI: Shakir says Anderson is his mother's half brother, and he spoke to him last in January of 2019 when the young filmmaker hired the officer as security on a film shoot.

JAMAl SHAKIR: To be able to do such a thing, despite it being your family, your blood, or your own people, it's something that is tremendously affecting the entire community.

HERMELA AREGAWI: His attorney says Shakir was not intending to antagonize his uncle, but was imploring him to do what he believed was the right thing.

CARL DOUGLAS: His nephew was merely saying, Eric, you should put down your arms and join us.

HERMELA AREGAWI: We reached out to LAPD for a response. But per department policy, they say they
