    Baltimore County Police say an elementary school teacher [Lawrence Joynes] who lives in Dundalk has been arrested on a child pornography charge ... Police said they charged him with one count of child pornography possession for material they found on a computer in his home.

A 15th student, who is now an adult, was reportedly victimized over a three-year period in the 1990s, police say. Lawrence Wesley Joynes, 54, assaulted the girls in his music classroom at New Hampshire Estates Elementary School and elsewhere on the grounds, police say. The girls range in age from kindergarten to second grade.

Police aren't saying whether she was also a student of Joynes.

    Joynes was under investigation for child pornography in Baltimore County and investigators there served search warrants at both his home in Dundalk and his classroom in Silver Spring. At both locations, investigators found videos and images of children on his computer and other digital media, police say.
    Among the seized evidence were videos and photographs that show the girls in Joynes' classroom as he directs them and/or assists them in making sexually suggestive gestures. The evidence also shows inappropriate touching by Joynes, Innocenti says. Montgomery County detectives were able to identify the 14 alleged victims from the seized videos and photos. The girls were Joynes' students, ranging in age from kindergarten to second grade, police say.

    According to a police statement released Tuesday morning, during a February 2013 investigation, the Department of Homeland Security and Baltimore County Police discovered that Joynes possessed child pornography. After searching his home and classroom, Baltimore County Police and Homeland Security officers discovered videos and images of children at both places, on his computer and other digital media. Montgomery County detectives identifed 14 students who were victims of sex abuse. The abuse included the suspect directing the victims and/or assisting the victims in imitating sexually suggestive gestures and also inappropriate touching by the suspect, Montgomery County Police Cpl. Rebecca Innocenti wrote in the release.

    In February 2013, a Homeland Security and Baltimore County Police child exploitation investigation showed [Lawrence] Joynes had child pornography in his possession. Police then searched Joynes' home and classroom where they found videos and photos of children. After examining the images police identified 14 students who they say were sex abuse victims. Police say the abuse featured Joynes "directing the victims and/or assisting the victims in imitating sexually suggestive gestures and also inappropriate touching".

    Investigators accused Lawrence Joynes, 54, of sexually abusing female students while he was teaching at New Hampshire Estates Elementary School in Silver Spring. Montgomery County police said he was charged last week with 14 counts of sex abuse of a minor, third-degree sex offense and second-degree rape. Detectives said Joynes sexually abused the victims in his classroom between 2005 and 2013 and that some of the victims were between the ages of kindergarten and second grade. Police said they have identified at least 15 victims, one of whom is now an adult who said she was victimized over a three-year period in the 1990s. In March, Joynes was charged separately with one count of possession of child pornography after Baltimore County police said they found child porn on his home and work computers.

Police allege that Joynes sexually abused the victims, some as young as kindergarten between 2005 and 2013 in his music classroom at the school.

    A former Montgomery County music teacher was indicted Thursday on 39 criminal counts related to his alleged sexual abuse of 14 elementary school girls and rape of a middle school student during his lengthy career in the county’s public school system. Lawrence W. Joynes, 55, faces the possibility of decades in prison if convicted of all the charges, which include sexual abuse of a minor, child abuse, second-degree rape and other offenses related to sexual conduct.

    Joynes has been in jail since his arrest a year ago in Baltimore County for possession of child pornography. He was recently sentenced for that offense — to time already served, or about a year — and was transferred to Montgomery for prosecution on the abuse allegations. He is being held without bond.

    A former Montgomery County music teacher charged with sexually abusing 15 students was indicted Thursday on 39 counts tied to the alleged abuse. Lawrence W. Joynes, 55, of Dundalk, is charged with sexually abusing 14 elementary school students at New Hampshire Estates Elementary School in Silver Spring, where he taught for 10 years. Joynes is also charged with having an inappropriate and sexual relationship with a student at Eastern Middle School in Silver Spring in the 1990s. The indictment includes 14 criminal counts on a new child pornography charge, four additional counts of third-degree sex offense, and an additional count of rape.

    Police also recovered sexually suggestive video clips of girls sucking on peppermint sticks and a man’s finger inside what appeared to be a music classroom. Some of the videos were set to music or had sexually suggestive captions. In other clips, the girls were inappropriately touched or made to touch themselves, police said in court records. According to testimony conveyed in the charging documents, Joynes described taping the videos in his classroom and said that the name of one girl was tattooed on his right shoulder.
