The attorney for a former Villa Rica High School secretary accused of having sex with students said one of the three students who accused Kristen Hammonds of having sex with them has changed his story. He said that calls into question what the other teens say happened. Carroll County authorities said Hammonds had sex with the students, ages 17, 18 and 19 at her home.

[Kristen Hammonds' attorney Mac] Pilgrim shed light on what may be a possible defense, indicating that this law may not even apply to Hammonds in the position she held at the school. “She may be guilty of poor judgment of some immoral act, but not necessarily an illegal or felonious act,” he said Tuesday. “Georgia Code Section 16-6-5.1 says ‘A person who has supervisory or disciplinary authority over another individual commits sexual assault when that person ... Is a teacher, principal, assistant principal or other administrator of any school and engages in sexual contact with such other individual who the actor knew or should have known is enrolled in the same school.’” “The code section ... says nothing about secretaries,” Pilgrim said.
