Pierce County prosecutors have charged a Tacoma middle school teacher with five counts of child rape alleging she had sex with a student at school and elsewhere, according to The News Tribune. Keshia T. Shaw, a science and math teacher at Gray Middle School, allegedly first had sex with the boy after school five years ago in a room next to the classroom, the paper reported. Later on, the victim said, Shaw had sex with him in his bedroom while his mother was at work and in a bank parking lot where she paid him $80 for a sex act.

Keshia T. Shaw faces five counts of second-degree rape stemming from the alleged incidents that began in 2007 and spanned nearly two years, prosecutors said. Shaw taught math and science at the school. At end of his sixth grade year, the victim, then 12-years-old, had to retake a test in Shaw's classroom. During the test, the victim noticed Shaw wasn't wearing underwear under her dress, prosecutors wrote in court documents. Shaw noticed him looking and asked if he was turned on, then took the victim to a nearby room where they had sex, detectives said. About a week later, the victim stayed after school and they had sex again, documents said. Two months later, Shaw gave the victim a ride home where they then had sex in the victim's bedroom as the mother was at work, prosecutors said. The victim went to another school for seventh grade, but in eighth grade, the victim ran away from home and went to Gray Middle School again to visit friends. He ran into Shaw, and they went into another room and had sex, detectives said. Shaw then drove the him to a bank where she withdrew $80, gave it to him, then drove to a parking lot and performed a sexual act with the victim, according to police. That was the last time the victim saw Shaw.

Keshia T. Shaw, who taught science and math at Gray Middle School, faces five counts of second-degree child rape. The 32-year-old woman was charged June 26 and has yet to enter a plea. She is scheduled to appear in court July 10. The allegations surfaced in May after the boy, now 17, listened to a church sermon about molestation and then told his mother he had been abused. Prosecuting Attorney Mark Lindquist said the victim felt compelled to tell somebody after the pastor urged victims of sexual abuse to disclose it because “The truth will set you free.” The abuse is alleged to have happened three or four times between April 2007 and December 2008.

When police contacted the victim's mother, she confirmed that her son had disclosed to her that he had had sex with Shaw on more than one occasion. The encounters allegedly began five years ago, in 2007, when the victim was in the 6th grade and 12 years old; Shaw was the victim's science and math teacher. The boy told investigators that Shaw seduced him while he was retaking an exam in her classroom. He said she then took him to a room between classrooms, locked the door and had sex with him. The two had sex again, about a week later, when the boy stayed after school, according to the documents. The boy said the sexual contact continued into the summer, when Shaw gave him a ride home from summer school and had sex with him in his home while his mother was at work. During the boy’s 8th grade year, while he was attending another school, he ran away from home and went to Grey Middle School to visit some friends, according to the documents. He said that while he was there, he saw Shaw and they went into a private area of her classroom and had sex. He said Shaw then drove him to a bank and withdrew $80, which she gave him. The boy said she drove him to a parking lot, where they had sex again, in the car.
