Kathleen Thomas, 26, of Canal Winchester, has been charged in Fairfield County Municipal Court with one count of disseminating matter harmful to juveniles and with telecommunications harassment, both first-degree misdemeanors.​

She had been placed on paid administrative leave after Fisher Catholic Principal Sean Kenney reported the claim Oct. 14 to the Lancaster Police Department. Kenney said he was at a football game the night before and that a parent approached him wanting to talk, according to a Lancaster police report.​

The concerned parent said a sexually oriented photograph was sent to a student from a teacher, the report said. It is believed Thomas was topless in the photograph, the report said. “Through the investigation, it was determined that Kathleen had sent at least one inappropriate photo of herself to this student,” Lancaster police Detective Sgt. Steve Fealty said in a Wednesday news release. The student and his father met with police in October. The student said Thomas asked him for his number, and he gave it to her, the report said. Thomas then began texting the student and sent him naked pictures and asked the student to send her naked photographs, the report said. The student’s phone and a photograph were taken as evidence, the police report said. The student said Thomas also rubbed his leg with her foot when the two were alone, the report said.​

Kathleen M. Thomas ... was suspended with pay in October from her job at Fisher Catholic High School after the principal relayed to police a parent’s report about cellphone “sexting” allegedly occurring between the teacher and one of her students ... The student told police that Thomas had sent him nude photos of herself and that he sent her photos of his genitals at her request. He also claimed that Thomas rubbed his leg with her foot when they were alone in a classroom. ​

According to a police report, [Principal Sean] Kenney told Lancaster police that he was approached by a parent at a football game on October 12. Kenney told police that the parent reported that a student had received a sexually oriented picture from [Kathleen] Thomas. Kenney told detectives that it had been alleged that Thomas had sent a nude picture of herself to a 17-year-old male student.​

Upon speaking with the alleged minor victim, officers learned that Thomas had allegedly asked the student for his phone number on September 26. The student said he complied with Thomas' request. The student told officers that Thomas, who was his teacher, began texting him after school and asked him why he appeared to be angry that day. The student stated that Thomas then sent him nude pictures of her and asked him to send nude pictures of himself in return. The student told officers that he complied with the Thomas' request, and that she continued to send nude pictures of herself.​

The student stated that he discontinued communication with Thomas the following day because she was making him feel uncomfortable. The student stated that he deleted all messages exchanged with Thomas. The student told officers he became concerned that people might find out about the incident and asked Thomas for another picture. Thomas complied and sent the student another nude picture, according to the student. The student told officers that he saved the picture to his email. The student also told officers that Thomas had rubbed his leg with her foot in class when they were alone.​

Authorities charged Kathleen Thomas with disseminating matter harmful to juveniles on Monday, months after the Fisher Catholic High School teacher allegedly texted inappropriate messages to a 17-year-old student. Thomas also faces a charge of telecommunication harassment. The student emailed a nude photo of Thomas to police in October, leading to a Lancaster Police investigation that resulted in the charges. The student told police Thomas asked him to respond to the text with a nude picture of his own. He said he complied with her request, but soon felt uncomfortable with the nature of the messages.​
