A mother’s decision to discuss sexual issues with her preteen son in the wake of the Penn State child abuse scandal led the boy to reveal he had been sexually molested repeatedly by a Lawrence Intermediate School special-education teacher’s aide, prosecutors said yesterday. Joseph Miller, 52, of Ewing is accused of sexually assaulting the 12-year-old boy, whom he babysat, numerous times over the summer. The assaults occurred in the Miller home and in the child’s home, said Assistant Prosecutor Jennifer Downing ... The victim, who is autistic, eventually revealed that he had showered naked with Miller and that the older man had performed sexual acts on him, Downing said. The younger child was not sexually assaulted by Miller but had seen the older child in the shower with Miller, she said. On at least one occasion both children and Miller were naked together as they changed into bathing suits, Downing said.

Also listed on the agenda for the board to act on Monday night is the termination of the employment of Joseph Miller, the Lawrence Intermediate School teacher’s aide who was arrested in Ewing Township in November on criminal charges alleging he molested a 12-year-old boy over the summer. Following Miller’s arrest, Lawrence Township Public Schools Superintendent Crystal Lovell said Miller had been suspended with pay and ordered to have no access to schools, pending the outcome of the criminal charges against him. According to the agenda for Monday’s meeting, Miller will receive payment of his salary through the end of December.
