"During the initial investigation involving the illicit text messages from Mr. Orellano to the victim, additional information was provided, which included a sexual relationship," she said. Further investigation revealed a sexual relationship between the two. Investigators said the victim and the suspect maintained a friendly relationship for two years starting when the student was 15 years old. They said the relationship became sexual shortly after Orellano began sending her illicit text messages in January.
Crime Voice: High School teacher arrested in student sex charges (May 17 2013) A former high school history teacher at California High School was arrested by LASD deputies after allegedly having sex with a 17-year-old student. Months earlier, before his arrest, John Gilbert Orellano of Cypress had been forced to resign when school officials learned that the teacher had been sending illicit text messages to the same girl. According to an LASD press release, the relationship between Orellano and the victim began platonically two years previously when she was fifteen. Their relationship shifted in January of this year when Orellano began to send sexually explicit text messages to the unidentified victim. They began a sexual relationship shortly thereafter.
Whittier Daily News: Former Cal High teacher and coach pleads no contest to child molestation (July 31 2013) "John Gilbert Orellano pleaded no contest to one count of unlawful sexual intercourse on July 26," Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office spokeswoman Shiara Davila-Morales said ... He was ordered back to Norwalk Superior Court for sentencing Aug. 30, when he was expected to receive 90 days jail time, as well as five years felony probation, she said. He will not be required to register as a sex offender.
