    2013:

    In August 2013, Fennes was indicted twice on charges of sexually assaulting a student, once while he was an elementary-school teacher in Montville between 2005 and 2008 and once as an assistant track coach at Butler High School in 1997 and 1998.

    2015:

    According to Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey Soriano, a 10-year-old girl told detectives on Jan. 28 that Fennes, while employed as a first-grade teacher at Cedar Hill Prep School on Cedar Grove Road sexually assaulted her in 2010 and 2011 while she was enrolled at the school.

    Background on prior charges:

    In Morris County, Fennes was charged with eight counts of sexual assault and four counts of child endangerment while he taught at William Mason Elementary School school between 2005 and 2008. Court papers say his alleged victims were female pupils between the ages of 6 and 7. Some of the girls claimed Fennes had them sit on his lap during classes and fondled them while their classmates were distracted with work.

    Also in Morris County, Fennes was charged with eight criminal counts of aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child through liaisons at his apartment in Parsippany between March 1, 1997, and Aug. 13, 1998.

    Fennes worked as an assistant track coach for Butler High School in 1997. The victim was between the ages of 14 and 15 when they met Fennes through his coaching position for the district, authorities have said. No encounters between Fennes and the victim, now 32, are alleged to have occurred on Butler school grounds.

    Former Montville, Butler teacher charged with sex assault on first-grader

    Jason Fennes, twice indicted for sex assault in Morris County, has been charged with sexually assaulting a female first-grade pupil at a private school here in 2010 and 2011.
    In August 2013, Fennes, now 40, was indicted twice on charges of sexually assaulting a student, once while he was an elementary-school teacher in Montville between 2005 and 2008 and once as an assistant track coach at Butler High School in 1997 and 1998.

    Former Montville 1st grade teacher accused of sexually assaulting female student

    Jason Fennes, 37, of Bloomfield, formerly of Boonton, was charged with sexual assault and child endangerment in alleged incidents between January and June of 2005, involving a girl who was 6 and 7, the documents stated. The prosecutor’s office learned of the accusations in December 2011, according to an affidavit signed by Morris County Prosecutor’s Detective Anne Marie Truppo and filed in Superior Court in Morristown.


    A woman known to the child told Detective Edward Mitreuter of the prosecutor’s office that the girl said Fennes had sexually assaulted her in a bathroom attached to the classroom, according to the affidavit. The girl initially told the woman about the assaults in 2007, but the woman said she was unsure what to do and did not pursue the matter with law enforcement officials at that time, Truppo wrote. The affidavit states the girl subsequently told Mitreuter about two alleged incidents, one being in the classroom.

    Jason Fennes, 37, of Bloomfield, formerly of Boonton, an ex-teacher at William Mason Elementary School, was arrested yesterday on charges of sexual assault and child endangerment. The alleged incidents took place in Fennes' classroom and in an attached bathroom between January and June of 2005, when the girl was 6 and 7 years old. The girl told Morris County Prosecutor’s Detective Edward Mitreuter that Fennes rubbed his genitals against her on one occasion and had her touch his genitals the other time, according to an affidavit filed in Superior Court in Morristown.

    A former Montville first-grade teacher [Jason Fennes, ] arrested earlier this week on charges he sexually abused a female student in 2005 was arrested again Friday night on charges he sexually abused another student, according to the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office ... Fennes, formerly of Boonton, was charged with two counts of sexual assault and one count of endangering the wfare of a child. The gender of the child was not released, but Fennes is alleged to have committed the crimes on the student at the William Mason Elementary School during the 2006-2007 school year.

    A first-grade teacher at a Somerset County preparatory school has been terminated amid a budding probe into allegations that he sexually assaulted a young student at a Morris County public school seven years ago, authorities said. Jason B. Fennes, 37, of Boonton was arrested Monday afternoon at the Morris County Prosecutor's Office and charged with second-degree sexual assault and second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, with bail set at $100,000.

    Authorities suspect that more charges will be filed against an ex-Montville school district first-grade teacher who is accused of molesting two former pupils, an assistant Morris County prosecutor said Tuesday. Jason Bryan Fennes, 37, appeared for a bail review via a closed-circuit video link between the Morris County jail and the courtroom of state Superior Court Judge Stuart Minkowitz. At the request of county Assistant Prosecutor Meg Rodriguez, the judge maintained bail for Fennes at $300,000.

    Jason Fennes, 37, who taught in Montville schools from 1998 to 2010, is accused of molesting two children. Prosecutors say one alleged victim was his first grade student at William Mason School, and at the time of the alleged 2005 sex assault the girl was no more than 7-years-old.

    He was arrested on Monday and released from Morris County Jail Thursday after posting a $100,000 bail. The very next day, Fennes was arrested again at the Cranford home of his parents, facing a new set of sex assault charges. Prosecutors say they’d uncovered evidence of a second alleged sex assault of a minor, details of which have not been made public.

    A former first-grade teacher at was arrested Monday afternoon and charged with sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child for allegedly abusing a girl who was in his class in 2005, authorities said. Jason Fennes, 37, of Boonton, was arrested at the Morris County Prosecutor's Office on the second-degree charges and was scheduled to appear in court Monday afternoon.

    According to an affidavit on file with the Morris County courthouse, the Morris County Prosecutor's Office received a report in December about the alleged abuse, which reportedly occurred in 2005 when the girl would have been around 6 years old. The girl, who is now about 13, told someone who authorities identified as a "citizen witness" about the alleged abuse in 2007. The witness came forward in December 2011. The witness wasn't sure what to do with the information and did not pursue the matter with police in 2007, according to the affidavit.

    On Dec. 22, 2011, a detective interviewed the victim, who described two alleged incidents when she was in the first grade, according to the affidavit. In one instance, Fennes allegedly removed her coveralls and underwear, pulled down his own pants and underwear and inappropriately rubbed himself against the girl in a bathroom that was connected to the classroom, the affidavit said. In the other reported incident, Fennes allegedly had the girl sit on his lap and he pulled open his pants and had the girl touch him inappropriately at his desk while the rest of the class worked on an art project, according to the affidavit.

    One parent whose daughter was a student of a former Montville first-grade teacher accused of sexual assault said she witnessed the teacher holding hands with students, but was stunned by last week's charges ... Theresa Golowko and her family have known Fennes for the past 10 years. Her children knew him through school and were on his track team while her husband coached alongside him. Her family has traveled with Fennes for athletic events and has seen his involvement and interaction with the Montville community firsthand.

    A former Montville first-grade teacher who has been jailed on charges he allegedly sexually assaulted two of his students has now been accused of having a sexual relationship with a Butler High School track athlete he coached at the school in the mid-'90s, the Morris County Prosecutor's Office said Saturday. According to a statement released by Capt. Jeffrey Paul, a spokesman for Prosecutor Robert A. Bianchi, three more victims recently came forward, accusing Jason Fennes, 37, of Bloomfield, of sexual assault. One victim alleged she and Fennes began having a sexual relationship when she was 14 and he was her high school track coach.

    Two More Students Accuse Ex-Teacher of Sex Abuse

    The two former students alleged Fennes asked both of them on separate occasions to sit on his lap and touched them inappropriately in the classroom, the affidavit said. One victim said Fennes had her sit on his lap on "four or five occasions," the affidavit said. The other victim also alleged Fennes had her touch him inappopriately, the affidavit said. The victim also told Montville Police she witnessed Fennes allegedly engaging in sexual acts with another student when the two were detained by the teacher while the rest of the class left the room, the affidavit said. These accusations resulted in Fennes being charged on Thursday with two counts of second-degree sexual assault of a child less than 13 years of age and two counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child.

    Fennes was also charged on Thursday with first-degree aggravated sexual assault for allegedly engaging in a sexual relationship with a Butler High School student who was 14 at the time and a member of the track team he coached. He was also charged with second-degree sexual assault for the relationship that allegedly lasted "several years," according to a statement the victim provided to police.

    Former Teacher Indicted on Second Set of Charges of Sexual Abuse [Press Release]

    Acting Morris County Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp and Montville Police Chief Richard Cook announce Jason Fennes, 39 years old, of Bloomfield, New Jersey was indicted today on charges of Aggravated Sexual Assault, Sexual Assault and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. The charges were the result of allegations of abuse made by a former student with whom Fennes allegedly engaged in a sexual relationship with when the victim was between the ages of 14 and 16. The acts allegedly began in 1997 when defendant was the victim’s assistant track coach at Butler High School and continued after he resigned from that position. The charges are based upon alleged sexual acts that occurred both while the defendant was in a supervisory position over the victim as well as when she was under the age of consent. The acts in question occurred in Parsippany.


    An investigation into this matter was launched in March of 2012 by Detective Sergeant Christopher Keezer of the Montville Police Department. Det. Sgt. Keezer was assisted by Detective Anne Marie Truppo of the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office. The defendant was arrested on May 30, 2012.


    On August 20, 2013, Fennes was also indicted on charges of Aggravated Sexual Assault, Sexual Assault, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child as a result of allegations of abuse made by four former students. The acts allegedly occurred during the defendant’s tenure as a first grade teacher at the William Mason Elementary School in the Montville Public School District between 2005 and 2008.


    Defendant’s most recent indictment is on three counts of First Degree Aggravated Sexual Assault; three counts of Second Degree Sexual Assault; one count of Second Degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child and one count of Third Degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child.


    The Honorable Mary Gibbons Whipple, J.S.C. continued bail at $225,000.00 with no 10% option. The defendant remains in the Morris County Correctional Facility.
