A hidden surveillance camera caught a Freedom Area High School gym teacher snorting crushed pills in his office and also giving a student a pill to inhale, New Sewickley police said Tuesday. James C. Summers, 41, of Darlington was arrested Tuesday in school Superintendent Jeffrey Fuller’s office and charged with drug paraphernalia possession and corruption of minors, police Chief Ron Leindecker said. ​

Leindecker said police got information during the week of Nov. 12 about “misconduct” relating to Summers, but said the information was too vague to pursue. Police notified the district, and officials there installed a hidden surveillance camera in Summers’ office, he said. In four of the videos, Summers is seen crushing and inhaling a pill. In a fifth video, according to police, Summers prepared a crushed pill for a student and then allowed him to inhale it, according to a criminal complaint written by New Sewickley officer Tom Liberty.​

Authorities say they received a complaint about 41-year-old James C. Summers earlier this month, and then installed a hidden camera in the physical education teacher's office at Freedom Area High School. That's about 25 miles north of Pittsburgh. The video allegedly showed Summers, of Darlington, crushing and inhaling a pill, and preparing a crushed pill for a student.​
