Mercier is a coach at Nixon-Smiley Middle School and the victim is a 14-year old female student. According to a statement from Nixon Police Chief Chris Almaguer, Mercier was brought in for questioning and fully cooperated with authorities. He is charged with an Improper Relationship Between Educator and Student, a second degree felony, and is being held in the Gonzales County Jail in lieu of a $30,000 bond.
