    According to a press release from Sheriff Ricky Adam, Hiram "Jay" Coker, 42, was arrested Thursday and charged with sexual battery while in a position of trust or authority over a student ... Adam said school administrators forwarded a complaint to the sheriff's office and after a thorough investigation, Coker was apprehended Thursday in Biloxi.

    Sun Herald: Hancock High drama teacher accused of sexual battery (Apr 12 2013)

    Sheriff Ricky Adam said school administrators became aware of allegations against Hiram Jay Coker, 42, and school officials cooperated in the investigation. Deputies arrested him Thursday night with the help of the Biloxi Police Department. Adam said Coker lives in Slidell.

    Sun Herald: Hancock High School teacher arrested on additional charge of sexual battery (Apr 22 2013)

    A drama teacher at Hancock High School arrested earlier this month on a charge of sexual battery is now facing an additional charge of sexual battery while in a position of trust or authority in Harrison County, sheriff's Major Ron Pullen said. Hiram Jay Coker, 42, initially was arrested April 11 in Hancock County after allegations of him having sex with a 16-year-old student. A subsequent investigation revealed Coker allegedly had sex with the girl at a Gulfport motel as well, resulting in the additional charge of sexual battery. Coker is now facing two charges of sexual battery while in a position of trust or authority.

    WWL TV: Teacher arrested by two sheriff offices for sexual battery involving a student (Apr 22 2013)

    Hiram Coker, 42, of Slidell, was initially arrested by the Hancock County Sheriff's Office on April 12 for sexual battery involving a student, and Coker was also arrested by Harrison County deputies after learning that one of the alleged sexual encounters with the 16-year-old student took place at a Harrison County hotel, according to the Harrison County Sheriff's Office.

    A Hancock High School teacher who was arrested earlier this month for alleged sexual misconduct now faces a similar charge in Harrison County ... On April 12, Coker was arrested by Hancock County authorities on the same charge. Further investigation revealed that Coker allegedly committed the same act at a hotel in Harrison County, Brisolara said. The victim was a 16-year-old girl, Brisolara said.

    Teacher sentenced to 20 years in sex case

    Former Hancock High School teacher and drama instructor Hiram "Jay" Coker pled guilty Monday to two counts of sexual battery of a former student in 2012. Circuit Court Judge John Gargiulo accepted Coker's guilty plea and sentenced him to 20 years in prison. Coker entered an open plea, commonly referred to as a "North Carolina" plea, in which there is no recommendation from the state on sentencing.
