"After learning about the possibility of an alleged sexual relationship, detectives made contact with the 17-year-old male student on Friday," reads a news release from the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office. "During an interview with detectives, the student gave a detailed account of the sexual relationship he had with [Heather Lasseigne] Chiasson, who had taught the student last year. "The student alleged that a 'flirtatious relationship' began between the two, resulting in sexual activity, including sexual intercourse," continues the news release. "The student also showed detectives numerous text messages exchanged with Chiasson, some of which contained text of a graphic sexual nature."

CBS News (24 Jan 2012): Louisiana teacher Heather Lasseigne Chiasson accused of having sex with student

The school discovered the alleged relationship Friday, according to school spokesman Floyd Benoit, CBS affiliate WWL reports. School Superintendent Jo Ann Matthews says Chiasson was suspended pending the results of the investigation. According to WWL, police say Chiasson faces a misdemeanor, rather than a more severe charge of carnal knowledge of a juvenile, because the student was 17 at the time of the alleged incident.
