Teacher, 29, accused of sexually exploiting Watrous high school student

Police say sometime between March 1, 2013 and April 20, 2013, Erin Osmond-Kaziuk touched a young person for a sexual purpose and invited him to touch her for a sexual purpose. Sergeant Craig Cleary of the RCMP told CBC’s iTeam “on April 24, 2013, the complaint was received from the victim and the victim’s parents in regards to a sexual relationship with a teacher at the school.” Osmond-Kaziuk was charged in May 2013, and shortly after the school division dismissed her.


It was supposed to notify the ministry immediately, which in turn would notify the Saskatchewan Teacher's Federation, however that didn’t happen for more than a year. Despite that lack of reporting, the ministry of education said it doesn't believe Osmond-Kaziuk was hired by another school district in the intervening time. While the ministry was kept in the dark for a year, the public has never been informed of the criminal charges.​

A teacher who was substituting at a Watrous high school will go on trial next week for sexual exploitation of a teen boy. Erin Osmond, 29, faces two counts of sexual exploitation after a student and his parents told police he was having a sexual relationship with the teacher in the winter of 2013, according to RCMP ... RCMP spokesman Sgt. Craig Cleary said the student and his parents complained to police on April 24, 2013, alleging the teen was involved with the teacher between February and April of that year.

Texting led to sex with teacher, teen testifies

A physical relationship between a substitute teacher and a teenager in her classroom started with a kiss on the boy’s 16th birthday, the boy testified in court ... [Erin] Osmond was a substitute teacher in the teen’s class at Winston High School in Watrous between September 2012 and February 2013. She gave her cell number to the entire class, the teen testified. He chatted with her in person about personal problems and they started texting back and forth, first about his life and school before the conversations turned more “intimate” after several months, he told court. “It crept up on me and happened before I realized it was happening,” the teen said in his RCMP interview. He was 15 when he first met Osmond.

They texted almost daily and often chatted on the phone, but nothing physical happened until his 16th birthday, when they kissed inside the school in the late afternoon, he told court. The texts became more sexual in nature after that, and they often discussed their worries about people finding out about their relationship, he said. The teen testified that he tried to end the relationship several times. “I’m sorry. I have to move on. I’m sorry I got us into this,” he texted to Osmond. However, they continued chatting because he couldn’t move on, he testified. “Emotional attachment, I suppose,” he told court about why he couldn’t stop.

Osmond said in a text that if she was single they wouldn’t have to worry about sneaking around; on more than one occasion, she referred to herself as the teen’s “sexy teacher” in texts. “Your friends will all be jealous and think of you as a god,” Osmond texted the teen, who said that message referred to the possibility of them having sex.

On March 16, 2013, they met up and drove in his truck to a field outside of Watrous, where she gave him oral sex and they had intercourse, the teen told RCMP. The scenario played out three more times — once more in the field and twice in a secluded gravel pit, he said.

They continued texting each other until the day RCMP interviewed the teen. He told court he didn’t know who reported the relationship to police, adding he told friends about the sexual intercourse and the story spread throughout the school.​
