Defining defunding the police to help our community

If we asked 25 different people what “defund the police” means, we would likely get 25 different definitions. Our definition focuses on where the investment should take place while recognizing that public safety is a priority. A 2014 Pew Research study reporting 52% of African Americans and 63% of Hispanics responded that “police do a good job of enforcing the law.” While the numbers are not overwhelming and likely have changed due to recent events, they do indicate that there is a level of recognition for a need for a police force.
