Deborah Anderson, 47, teacher at Baker Middle School, City of Baker School System, Baker, Louisiana, "booked with simple battery"

More from The Advocate article linked below:

Accused of simple battery on an eighth-grade student at the school, Anderson, 47, was handcuffed at school, placed in a patrol car and driven to the Baker Police Department before she was transferred to East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.

The incident started when a student tried to enter her classroom with his shirt untucked. The student, who called his mother to the school, complained to police that Anderson had yanked him by his shirt and blocked him from entering her classroom.

Attorney Ken Fabre, the special prosecutor for Baker City Court, later decided not to prosecute because of a lack of “sufficient evidence that a crime occurred.”

    Also from The Advocate:

[Police Chief Mike] Knaps has defended the Police Department’s decision to book Anderson by citing Police Department protocol. Knaps has said the department protocol is to book an adult on battery charges when the victim is a juvenile.

Like many police chiefs and cops, Chief Knaps is just too dumb to be breathing. "Policy" and "protocol" do not provide sufficient probable cause to make an arrest. You have to use your brain (lacking in many of them) and actually ascertain that there IS probable cause that a crime has been committed. Hopefully Ms. Anderson and her attorney will follow up & teach them an expensive lesson in the civil courts.

This is not a "sex" story, so it didn't make the first cut, and I have reservations about posting something after charges have been dropped, but behind this is a great example of cops run awry. Busted teachers usually make for good press, but this arrest backfired. It was based on policy and protocols, not on probable cause. It could turn out to be an expensive lesson funded out of local taxpayers' pockets.
