Smith, 34, who taught at McCaskey High School, is facing numerous charges regarding alleged relationships with students ages 15 and 17. Police allege Smith had sex with the 15-year-old, a McCaskey student, and in a separate incident had relations with the 17-year-old student from another school. Police also charged her with taking photographs of the encounters. Smith, a teacher at McCaskey for seven years, was fired in December 2010 after charges were filed. She is at Lancaster County Prison, with bail set at $300,000. Lancaster Online: Jurors to hear phone call in teacher sex trial (July 10 2012) A jury will hear a recorded 20-minute phone call between Christy Lee Smith and one of two former students with whom she is accused of having a sexual relationship, a local judge ruled Tuesday. The younger victim called Smith in September 2010 while police listened in and recorded the conversation with a wiretap. "I really don't want to go to jail," Smith tells the former student during the conversation. Smith and the student, who is now 19, both listened to the tape during a pre-trial evidence hearing. But that summer, he said, "I realized for the first time that I had been a victim and I was being taken advantage of." ... The man told the jury he has emotional problems, including bipolar disorder or Asperger's syndrome, a form of autism. He testified that he "fell into that stream of teenage boys who had a crush" on Smith. He said she was popular with her students for her different and open manner with them. One by one, the teachers and a counselor testified about the close relationship between Smith and the student ... Casillo said he was Smith's friend and co-worker when he started to give the relationship a closer look. He also had heard similar suspicions from other teachers, he testified. He described "flirty" interactions between Smith and the student. Casillo also said the student became upset and defensive when he inquired about the relationship. Casillo said he struggled over whether to go to school administrators. In January 2009, he finally did. Lancaster Online: Police testify in teacher sex trial (July 16 2012) On the day of her arrest, Christy Lee Smith admitted to kissing one of her students a few times. But the former McCaskey High School teacher insisted she never had sex with the boy, according to a detective's testimony on Monday ... Smith was shown evidence obtained from the McCaskey student, she opened up a bit, Harnish testified. Smith said she kissed the student about four times, Harnish testified. But there was never any sex, she said ... The student recalled specific marks on Smith's body, details of her apartment, and sex toys and pornography the teacher kept at her place. Other city police officers testified Monday about how they confiscated those items from Smith's apartment. The items were shown to the jurors. Detective Sonja Stebbins noted a tattoo of a frog Smith had on her hip that normally would be concealed by her underwear. The McCaskey student gave police a description and location of the tattoo, she said.
