    Audit: BPS missed background checks, paid Schools Foundation

    Superintendent Desmond Blackburn wasn't surprised by the findings of a recent state audit. It found that Brevard Public Schools has been making what the auditor general called non-permitted payments to Brevard Schools Foundation, failed to perform background checks for some employees, awarded scholarships to teachers who were not eligible to receive them and has yet to correct issues in a department that previously fell victim to a theft ring.
