Dundee IT teacher Angus McCormack received the prison term as part of an extended six-and-a-half-year sentence imposed at Forfar on Thursday for possessing material including the abuse of infants, which was uncovered in almost 150 detailed and neatly organised folders in a network of computer equipment at his home. The 50-year-old former Monifieth High School staff member was described by his lawyer as a "husk of the man he was" after the court heard McCormack has begun accessing and sharing the vile material online in an effort to "exorcise the demons" of serious sexual abuse he suffered some four decades ago.​

Angus McCormack, an IT teacher at Monifieth High School, Angus, was investigated by police after they were tipped off that he had been downloading the images. When police scoured his computers they discovered the teacher had been involved in distributing the images via Skype, a video and chat communication network ... He was then taken to the home on the outskirts of Dundee that he shared with his wife of 26 years, where they seized his computer and a number of hard drives. They were taken away for examination by computer crime experts, who found 7600 child abuse pictures and more than ten hours of videos of children, mainly boys, being abused. The court heard that the pictures involved infants and children aged up to 16, including material at the most serious level of the scale used by the courts.​

Forfar Sheriff Court heard Angus McCormack had 7,600 images and over 10 hours of videos on his computer of children, mainly boys, being abused. The 50-year-old admitted possessing the material and to distributing indecent photographs of children. Sheriff Kevin Veal also placed him on the sex offenders register. The court heard the IT teacher at Monifieth High School in Angus was taken from his classroom by police after they were tipped off that he had been downloading the images.​

John Macdonald, defending, said McCormack had begun looking at child porn to deal with his own abuse as a child. He said McCormack’s marriage ended the day he was arrested.
