WDTN (4 Nov 2011): Police arrest Florida teacher, student

WDTN said:

A run of the car's license plate showed the 16-year-old had warrants out for his arrest and that he might be armed and dangerous. So officers went to the pair's room where they took them into custody. Police say they did find a handgun inside the room. What the two had planned is still unknown. "They're not cooperating in terms of giving us information, so we're not sure where they're headed," Brown says.

Northwest Florida Daily News (21 Nov 2011): Walmart shopping spree: More details emerge on Cooney charges

Northwest Florida Daily News said:

Cooney’s current charges stem back to October. She is accused of breaking into a Chevrolet SUV on Riverchase Boulevard in Crestview and taking a credit card, which she later used at Walmart, according to the Crestivew Police Department’s probable cause affidavit. When police reviewed the security tape from Walmart, they saw Cooney purchasing $513.64 worth of merchandise just after 5 a.m. on Oct. 14 and signing the other person’s name. When police performed a “trash pull” on Cooney’s garbage, which was in the common area of the complex she lives in to be taken by the trash company, they found the receipt from that particular shopping trip. According to the report, Cooney is also a suspect in “multiple car burglary cases” in Crestview.

According to Investigator Ralph Garrett, Amanda Leigh Cooney, 25, got involved with a former student during the 2010-2011 school year and the two began having sex in the summer of 2011 at her home. The 16-year-old ran away from home and moved in with Cooney in October 2011. Garrett said Cooney knew the victim's age but discussed having children with him.
