Washington Post: Teacher accused of abusing autistic child flees to Hong Kong, Montgomery police say (Dec 3 2013)

Three weeks ago, the parents of a Silver Spring teenager learned that their autistic son may have been sexually abused by an educator [Yee Tak Sharon Kui]. The 15-year-old talked to police. Days later, the family went to see a protective services worker. “We drove by the school,” the boy’s father recalled Tuesday. “He began to literally rip pieces of the door panel off the inside of our car.” ... Police said that in November, she twice visited the boy at his home — apparently on Sunday mornings, while his parents were at church — and fondled him and had sexual intercourse with him.

    ...

The teenager disclosed that he and Kui had been sending text messages to each other and talking on the phone, and police learned that they had exchanged sexually explicit messages, according to charging documents. According to police, Kui visited the boy’s home Nov. 3. Six days later, she sent him a text message and asked if he would have sex with her, according to an arrest warrant filed in the case. Kui returned to his house Nov. 10, a Sunday, authorities said. The next day, the teenager’s parents, school officials and police were starting to piece together what happened, according to documents and police officials. On Nov. 12, detectives applied for an arrest warrant in the case. By then, they already knew the time to act was tight. “On Nov. 11, 2013, during a telephone conversation with the victim, the defendant mentioned she would flee the country rather than go to jail,” detectives wrote in a statement of charges.

WUSA 9: Frost School teacher Yee Tak Sharon Kui fled to Hong Kong after accused of sexual assault against student (Dec 3 2013)

A teacher accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old boy with autism has fled the country, according to Montgomery County Police ... Minister Ronald Harding bravely stepped to the microphone with his wife to describe his son's reaction. They were driving past the Frost School in Rockville, where he was a student of [Yee Tak Sharon] Kui on their way to report his alleged abuse at her hands to child protective services. "He began literally ripping pieces of the door panel off the inside of our car. It's challenging for him because with autism, he does not display his emotions. But he feels them deeper than most of us." They had struggled for years to find the right school for the autistic by high functioning 15-year-old. But police now believe that while his parents were at church, Kui sent salacious text messages and then twice came to their home and had sex with the child.
    ...
The Frost School says as soon as it found out about the text messages between Kui, a manager called her in, suspended, and then terminated her. It was that meeting that alerted her she was in deep trouble. And sent her fleeing to China before police had a chance to sweep her up.

The Sentinel: Private school teacher charged with sexual assault flees (Dec 3 2013)

Russ Hamill, assistant chief of police, said the victim disclosed information last month about having a relationship with a teacher which included sexual act. Police then initiated an investigation, which led to the issuance of an arrest warrant on Nov. 12. The teacher, 25-year-old Yee Tak Sharon Kui, is being charged with two counts of third sex offense, one count of sex abuse of a minor and sexual solicitation of a minor, Hamill said. Once detectives received the arrest warrant, they went to apprehend Kui, Hamill said, but found out from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security she had fled to Hong Kong.

    ...

According to the application for statement of charges filed with the Montgomery County District Court, the victim disclosed he and Kui had been sending sexually explicit text messages to one another on a regular basis. Then, according to the document, on Nov. 3, Kui visited the victim at his Silver Spring home while his parents were out. While visiting, Kui allegedly kissed the victim and fondled his genitals. A second incident occurred, allegedly, on Nov. 10, according to the document, when Kui visited the victim again. This time they engaged in oral sex and intercourse. According to police, Kui fled the country on Nov. 13.

Hamill said the victim’s family first contacted The Frost School, before contacting police. Once the school began its investigation, he said, Kui fled the country. “We are seeking her return,” Hamill said, “in order for her to face these serious allegations and be held accountable for her actions. According to the document Kui, a Rockville resident who is originally from China, allegedly had a conversation with the victim on Nov. 11, where she told him she would rather flee the country than go to jail.
