Hattiesburg teacher had been arrested before

The charges against [Shalonda] Hill and Booth stem from the pair's attempt to purchase a house at 73 Ellzey Lane. According to a Sept. 9 grand jury indictment, investigators had determined that Booth and Hill had incurred losses and seizures far exceeding their legitimate income and did not have legitimate means to provide $150,000 in cash to buy the house. The indictment says that Booth and Hill asked the owners of the house to convert the $150,000 in cash to a cashier's check for them. The owners took the cash to Community Bank in Hattiesburg to obtain the check. The grand jury said the conversion of that cash to a cashier's check was "designed in whole or in part to conceal and disguise the nature, source, ownership and control of proceeds of (distribution of controlled substances)."

Hill, who has been a teacher in Hattiesburg since 2012, had been arrested with Booth before. In January 2010, the pair was arrested as part of a six-month undercover operation by the Hattiesburg Police Department and members of the Metro Drug Task Force. At that time, police found 25 pounds of marijuana during a search of a home occupied by Booth and Hill in the 100 block of Ralston Road. Hill's home in the 200 block of McInnis Springs Drive also was searched as part of the operation and police found a rifle, a handgun, $100,000 in cash and two pounds of marijuana. Hill, Booth and another man were charged with one count of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
