    Also on Friday, police responded to a report of child abuse at Rogers Garden Elementary School around 12:15 p.m. Officers at the school said they spoke with Robert Morse, who allegedly hit a 12-year-old student as he entered the school. In an interview with police, Morse, 66, “claimed he was being playful,” according to a news release. The child did not sustain serious injuries and Morse was arrested and charged with simple battery. Police did not provide a full list of schools where Wingate and Morse may have filled in as substitutes. Wingate’s arrest is an active investigation, police said. ...

    Bradenton Police: Substitute teacher in Bradenton hits 12-year-old student

    A substitute teacher in Bradenton hit a 12-year-old student on Friday, according to Bradenton Police. Police were called to Rogers Garden Elementary School in Bradenton around Noon on Friday for an alleged child abuse case. When they arrived, officers learned that Robert Morse, a substitute teacher for the School District of Manatee County, hit a 12-year-old student as he was walking into the school. The child did not have serious injuries, according to police. Morse was interviewed by detectives and he claimed he was being playful. Morse was arrested and charged with simple battery.

    Manatee County substitute teacher arrested after allegedly hitting 12-year-old student

    Bradenton police say they arrested a school teacher on simple battery charges Friday, April 16. According to police, Robert Morse 66, a substitute teacher for the School District of Manatee County, hit a 12-year-old student as he was walking into the school. Police were originally dispatched for an allegation of child abuse at Rogers Garden Elementary School. Police say Morse claimed he was being playful when he hit the student. Morse was arrested and charged with simple battery.


    Statement from school district:

    Regarding Mr. Morse, this incident occurred today and the Bradenton Police Department investigated today. He too is a contract substitute employed by ESS.He has been removed from working in our schools or having any contact with students until this matter is completely resolved.School district security officials are working with the Bradenton Police Department on this investigation.

    Substitute Teacher Charged With Battery On Student: Police

    A 66-year-old substitute teacher for the School District of Manatee County has been charged with simple battery after hitting a student Friday, Bradenton police said in a news release. Robert Morse told police he was "being playful" when he hit a 12-year-old student as he was walking into G.D. Rogers Garden-Bullock Elementary School, according to the news release. The school is located at 515 13th Ave. W. in Bradenton. The child wasn't injured in the incident, police said. Morse was arrested Friday.
