    According to the criminal complaint, the girl told sheriff’s investigators that she had been “involved in a romantic sexual relationship for quite some time” that included sexual intercourse. One encounter occurred in October while [Paul Joseph] Johnson was in a Twin Cities hotel while in the metro area for a teachers conference, she said. The other two occurred in the back of his Toyota Prius in Beltrami County, she added. he girl said that she and Johnson had many conversations in an online chat room and that their sexual relationship was among the topics.

    The female student informed law enforcement Wednesday that she and [Paul Joseph] Johnson had engaged in a romantic sexual relationship between October and December. Court documents stated the student and Johnson engaged in sexual intercourse at least three times – once in a Minneapolis-St. Paul hotel room during a teachers conference and twice in the back seat of Johnson’s car. Johnson and the girl used Gmail hangouts to communicate, court documents stated. Law enforcement reviewed the student’s Gmail account, which included 60 pages of chat messages between her and Johnson starting in October. The criminal complaint stated that the conversations included discussions about the student and Johnson’s sexual relationship.
