An investigation revealed [Kristin Ostmann] obtained a room at the Red Roof Inn in Middleburg Heights, where they engaged in sexual relations, on February 18th, 19th and 25th as well as on March 4th of 2011. The matter was brought to the attention of the school district by a concerned parent. The administration then began an immediate investigation. Ostmann resigned on April 15th and voluntarily surrendered her teaching license.

A former high school teacher has been indicted by a grand jury for having sex with a student, according to the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office. 25-year-old Kristin Ostmann of Medina was indicted April 29 on four counts of sexual battery. She was a high school science teacher in Olmsted Township. According to the indictment, Ostmann had a relationship with an 18-year-old male student.

[Prosecutor Bill] Mason told Fox 8, "One of his friends who saw her showing up all the time because he was playing in a rock band, thought it was a little weird. [The friend] told her mother. Her mother then sent an e-mail to the school district saying, 'Hey, something ain't right here.' The school district checked it out and sure enough, she was having sex with one of the students." Investigators say Ostmann flirted with the student when he was 17, but told him they would have to wait until he turned 18 before they could have sex.

A Medina Township resident who is accused of having sex with one of her students she taught at Olmsted Falls High School recently pleaded guilty to a reduced charge. As part of a plea agreement, Kristin Ostmann, 25, pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated assault, a fourth-degree felony in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court. For this plea, prosecutors also dropped the sexual predator specification which would have required her to register with the sheriff's office for many years.

Before sentencing, Ostmann pleaded with Judge Joseph Russo to show mercy. "I obviously was not thinking properly and I am truly sorry about my conduct with this young man and any impact this had on his life", said Ostmann. "I'd also like to apologize to my fellow teachers, students and athletes, and the school for any embarrassment that this may have caused." But Assistant Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Steve Gall told the court, "they talk about the one golden rule of teaching, which is you can't have sex with your children, your students." Investigators said Ostmann's secret relationship with the 18-year-old boy, which is forbidden by Ohio law regardless of age, was exposed by an Olmsted Falls parent who contacted the board of education.
Gall told the judge that Ostmann's crime has changed the life of the young man, whose mother is also a teacher.
