El Segundo detectives opened an investigation into Simonek on Aug. 2 after the county Department of Children and Family Services received an anonymous report alleging the sexual assault on the two boys.

    Officials in El Segundo have arrested a 37-year-old elementary school teacher and accused him of sexually assaulting two male juveniles in his classroom. Authorities say they first received an anonymous tip in August 2012 and have been conducting a “thorough” investigation ... Simonek is accused of assaulting the two students last year in his Center Street School classroom.
    It is alleged that Simonek also worked as a Lake Tahoe-area summer camp counselor from 2005-11 where he worked with boys ages 6-11. Investigators believe he committed similar lewd acts on boys at the camp.

    A 27-year-old man suspected of sexually assaulting two boys in a classroom of an El Segundo elementary school where he taught the fifth grade was jailed today in lieu of $100,000 bail and authorities were seeking anyone with information about other possible victims. Jeffrey Simonek, who also worked as a counselor at a Lake Tahoe-area summer camp for boys ages 6-11, was arrested around 6:50 p.m. Wednesday by El Segundo police investigators who received an anonymous report through the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services that he had sexually assaulted two boys, said El Segundo police Lt. Raymond Garcia.

    27-year-old Jeffrey Simonek was arrested on Wednesday following an investigation that began back in August, when police say they received an anonymous tip. The fifth grade teacher is accused of assaulting the two students last year in his classroom at Center Street School while other students were present.

    Police say that Simonek is also under investigation for similar alleged crimes against boys at a Lake Tahoe summer camp.
    He worked at the camp as a counselor for boys ages 6 to 11 from 2005-11. He was also known to volunteer with youth organizations in Los Angeles and Orange County, according to El Segundo police.

    Not only did Jeffrey Simonek teach fifth grade at Center Street School, he also worked as a counselor at a Lake Tahoe-area summer camp for boys ages 6-11 from 2005 to 2011 as well as volunteered with various youth organizations in both Los Angeles and Orange County. El Segundo police received an anonymous tip via the Department of Children and Family Services on August 2 that Simonek had sexually assaulted two boys, according to a release. Following a thorough investigation, officials determined that two students were assaulted last school year in a classroom. Simonek was placed on administrative leave during the investigation, which also revealed that he had committed similar criminal acts with young boys at the camp.

    Jeffrey Simonek, who had been placed on administrative leave from his job at Center Street School in the El Segundo Unified School District while allegations were being investigated, was scheduled to appear Friday at the Airport Courthouse. He was arrested around 6:50 p.m. Wednesday by El Segundo police investigators, who received an anonymous report of possible sexual assault through the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services, police said in a news release. Simonek was booked on suspicion of committing lewd acts with children under the age of 14. Bail was listed at $300,000, police said.

    A county grand jury has indicted a former El Segundo fifth-grade teacher on charges that he molested 13 boys, including two in his Center Street School classroom and others in Plumas and Orange counties. Jeffrey Simonek, 28, of Torrance faces 20 counts of lewd acts upon a child under 14 years old, stemming from alleged crimes that occurred primarily from September 2011 to September 2012. One crime was alleged to have occurred in 2007, according to the indictment ... The grand jury indictment, initially sealed and marked “secret,” names 13 individual victims, each listed by his first name and initial of his last name. Sixteen of the alleged offenses occurred in Los Angeles County, two in Plumas County and two in Orange County. Each count alleges Simonek committed a lewd and lascivious act on a boy “with the intent of arousing, appealing to, and gratifying the lust, passions and sexual desires of the said defendant and said child.”

    A fifth-grade teacher who worked for the El Segundo Unified School District has been charged by a grand jury with molesting 13 boys, mostly in the L.A. area. The Daily Breeze reports that Jeffrey Simonek, 28, of Torrance, is facing 20 charges of lewd acts with children under 14 years old. The crimes were committed in his classroom among other places, authorities allege. Simonek was arrested on $20 million bail in November, and is now in custody at Twin Towers jail in downtown L.A. Although Simonek was first arrested a year ago, it was based on one incident that involved two boys. Prosecutors didn’t charge him at the time, hoping to give investigators time to uncover more crimes. The investigation grew to include alleged crimes against kids he supervised at camps as well as students in his classes. Sixteen of the incidents occurred in L.A. County; the other four were in Orange and Plumas counties, authorities believe.

    Jeffrey Thomas Simonek, 28, faces 20 counts of lewd acts upon a child under 14 years old, according to authorities. He was arrested Nov. 26 and remains in county jail in lieu of $20-million bail. According to the indictment unsealed Dec. 12, the alleged crimes occurred between April 2006 and June 2012, with most victims molested multiple times over spans of a few days to several months. Investigators allege 15 of the felony counts were committed in Los Angeles County, three in Plumas County and two in Orange County, according to the indictment.

    The case expanded when investigators learned that Simonek had access to hundreds of other children through work as a counselor at a Lake Tahoe-area summer camp that drew boys ages 6 to 11 from 2005 to 2011, Lt. Raymond Garcia told The Times. Investigators allege that he committed similar crimes at the camp, according to a police statement. Simonek also volunteered at the Painted Turtle, a Lake Hughes youth camp for children with serious medical conditions. It was co-founded by actor Paul Newman, the South Bay Conservatory in Torrance, the now-defunct RnB Dance Studio in Torrance and the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County, Garcia said.
