Cambridge school teacher accused of having child pornography

“During the course of the interview, Wairi admitted to secretly videotaping and using a camera cell phone to videotape children changing in and out of clothes on more than one occasion. He also admitted to setting up and hiding a video camera in a locker room in order to videotape children changing in and out of clothes,” U.S. Postal Service Inspector Scott Kelley wrote in court documents.​

Authorities also allege that Wairi posted an ad on Craigslist in which he offered his babysitting services.​

According to an affidavit by a Postal Inspector with the United States Postal Inspection Service, the investigation started in July 2013, after AOL reported an email exchange involving suspected child pornography.​

Police were able to identify Wairi by linking the email address to his computer I.P. address. Investigators say they found evidence during a search that Wairi had traded and received hundreds of images and videos of child pornography.​

Police searched Wairi's Somerville home Thursday and discovered computers, cameras, video cameras, external hard drives, photo albums and many photographs of children.​

Wairi admitted to setting up and hiding a video camera in a locker room in order to videotape children changing in and out of clothes, prosecutors said. Prosecutors said Wairi admitted the images and videos of children would sexually arouse him and admitted to viewing the images for sexual self-gratification.​

The search eventually led to Wairi’s Somerville apartment, where law enforcement officials executed a search warrant today, the affidavit said. The officials forced entry when no one answered knocks and calls at the door, but found Wairi there.​

After being advised of his Miranda rights, Wairi allegedly made numerous admissions, including that he used e-mail to “trade and receive images of child pornography,” the affidavit said. “Wairi estimated that he possessed hundreds of images and videos of child pornography,” the affidavit said.​
