Scheller said the former teacher admitted to having "some sexual contact with the victim," not sexual intercourse. But the victim told police the two exchanged inappropriate photos of each other and had sexual intercourse at Kraus' Grayslake apartment, said Scheller, who also confirmed the victim was a Grant student. Scheller said Kraus is free from jail after posting the required 10 percent of her $100,000 bail.​

Kraus lived in Grayslake at the time of the alleged assault and recently moved to Mundelein. She resigned her position at the high school in October.​

Lake County prosecutors say the science teacher admitted having sexual contact with the Grant High School student, but denies that they had sexual intercourse. The victim told police that the two had sex at Kraus' Grayslake, Ill., home, and exchanged inappropriate photos. Kraus has since moved to Mundelein, Ill., according to the Lake County Sun-Times. She was released on $10,000 bond and must obey a curfew as a condition of her bail, in addition to avoiding contact with minors, including the victim. The teacher resigned from Grant High School, where she had taught for eight years, after the allegations came to light Oct. 9.​

Amber Kraus, 30, of Mundelein was arrested last week and was being held on $100,000 bond after being charged with sexual assault of a student between the ages of 13 and 17 and aggravated criminal sexual abuse for violating a position of trust and authority, said Grayslake Police Chief Phil Perlini. Kraus lived in Grayslake at the time of the alleged assault and recently moved to Mundelein. She resigned her position at the high school in October.​

School officials received information regarding the alleged inappropriate contact on Oct. 6, according to a letter sent home to parents by Grant Community High School District 124 Superintendent Christine Sefcik. School officials said they contacted the police immediately. Sefcik stated in a news release that the alleged incident appears to be isolated, involved no other students and took place outside of the school. “We have no reason to believe anyone else has come forward,” Vargas said.​

Kraus was arrested this fall and charged with sexual assault of a student between the ages of 13 and 17 at her former home in Grayslake. She remains free on a $100,000 bond.
