DA: Indecent liberties charged against teacher did not occur at school 22 Aug 2014 Richard Michael McWhirter, 31, of 1444 Sterling Ave., Gastonia, was charged with one count of indecent liberties with a student. The charge is a felony. According to arrest records, McWhirter was the female accuser’s teacher at the time of the incident on Feb. 8. ... Bell says he was approached several months ago about the allegations. An investigation spanned several months before charges were filed Wednesday afternoon. Police would not say how old the girl was in February.
