Sources also said his wife worked at Matoaca High School as a guidance counselor. Police said Ells had allegedly been involved with a student for around four months. When asked how police found out, we were told someone who knew the suspect saw what appeared to be inappropriate communication between Ells and the girl. Ells, 29, of Chesterfield, has been charged with three counts of taking indecent liberties with a minor while in a custodial role and four counts of carnal knowledge of a child between 13 and 15 years of age. Police say Ells, a teacher at Matoaco High School, was involved in an inappropriate relationship with a juvenile female student. When the school became aware of the incident, police say the school contacted Child Protective Services who notified police.

Harold] Childs said. That led the individual to contact school personnel, who contacted Chesterfield County Child Protective Services. Child Protective Services notified police Tuesday and Childs said that by Thursday enough evidence had been collected to bring charges against Ells. Childs said it's not known whether or not the two had any inappropriate contact with each other while on school grounds, though apparently communications between the two go back to at least April.

Ells was sentenced to seven years in jail, with three years suspended. Ells’ attorney said his client would likely only spend two years behind bars because the crimes were misdemeanors.
