An arrest warrant was issued Thursday claiming corruption of a minor, unlawful contact with a minor and criminal use of a communication facility.

Lebanon High School's choral director, is charged with corruption of a minor, unlawful contact with a minor and criminal use of a communication facility, school officials said ... School district administration on Monday received information from a Mt. Lebanon graduate claiming Greenawalt engaged in inappropriate communications of a sexual nature before and after the student's graduation, district spokeswoman Cissy Bowman said. District officials immediately removed Greenawalt from the classroom and suspended him, she said.

    According to the criminal complaint, the minor claims he received sexually explicit messages from [Jason] Greenawalt at school and at home between November 2010 and June 2012. He said the explicit messages were exchanged via phone, texting and social networking. The student says Greenawalt sent him an article in the summer of 2011 about a school track coach who was arrested for allegedly having sex with a student and told him, "Thank you for keeping your mouth shut," according to the complaint. The complaint also says the teen told police that Greenawalt would text him and tell him "can't be anything until you graduate" and "things I can't tell you until after you graduate. When you graduate, we can actually do something like (a sex act)." He said the explicit messages continued through his senior year and after graduation.

    In one communication in 2011, investigators say the teacher referred to another teacher accused of having sex with a student and said, “Look what happened. Look what we are doing. Thanks for keeping your mouth shut.” In December of 2011, before graduation in June, [Jason] Greenawalt texted, according to the criminal complaint, “Can’t be anything until you graduate. Things I can’t tell you until after you graduate. When you graduate we can actually do something.” Then, Greenawalt is accused of describing a sex act. Also, “according to the minor, he felt that in order for him to continue to be considered one of Greenawalt’s favorites, he had to continue to talk dirty to him.”

    A Pittsburgh-area choir teacher accused of sending sexually explicit messages to a student via cell phone has surrendered to police. Authorities say 33-year-old Jason W. Greenawalt of Brookline surrendered Friday. He allegedly sent the messages to a male student for three years starting in 2010. Greenawalt, who directs the Mt. Lebanon high school choir and musicals, has been suspended by the school.

    According to the criminal complaint, [Jason] Greenawalt sent a picture of himself wearing a black Speedo to the student. The complaint also said the two communicated on a dating website. “There was also a social networking website called Grinder that these two communicated on, as well,” Lauth said. The complaint said Greenawalt sent a text message to the student saying, “We can’t be anything until you graduate. When you graduate we can do something.” The complaint also said the student claimed Greenawalt showed him an article on a Mt. Lebanon track coach who was arrested for having sex with a student. The student said Greenawalt told him, “Look what happened, and look what we’re doing. Thanks for keeping your mouth shut.”

    Jason Greenawalt, 33, of Brookline is charged with corruption of minors, unlawful contact with a minor and criminal use of a communication facility. Police said Greenawalt exchanged sexually explicit text messages with a male student from December 2010 to June 2012. Magisterial District Judge Blaise Larontonda on Friday set a $20,000 bond for Greenawalt, who surrendered to Mt. Lebanon police and was taken to the Allegheny County Jail.

    A male student, who has since graduated, told police he received sexually explicit messages from Mr. Greenawalt while at school and at home starting in November 2010, Mt. Lebanon police wrote in a criminal complaint. The exchanges were via text and GrindR, a social networking app for gay men. The former student said he first became friends with Mr. Greenawalt because both were involved in the school marching band. The former student told police Mr. Greenawalt would ask him to send pictures, but he declined. Mr. Greenawalt once sent the former student an image of himself in a bathing suit, according to the complaint. The two never had sex, although Mr. Greenawalt would sometimes touch the former student's stomach with the back of his hand at school, according to the complaint. He told police he "entertained the sexual conversations with Greenawalt over a three-year period because he felt manipulated and trapped by Greenawalt," the complaint said.
