Sherrdean Turley said that Mounties witnessed what they believed was a hand-to-hand drug transaction near an elementary school in Vancouver Nov. 7 while working on an unrelated property crime investigation.

    The RCMP say 41-year-old Eugenio Alfonso Bahamonde is accused of possession and trafficking in drugs. He was arrested on Nov. 7 after RCMP officers from Richmond saw the driver of a vehicle stop near a Vancouver school and appear to make a drug transaction with a pedestrian. Police say the driver was also allegedly smoking pot at the time, so the officers pulled him over and slapped him with a 24 hour driving prohibition

    Plain-clothes Richmond RCMP officers were conducting an investigation in Vancouver on Nov. 7 when they noticed a driver appear to hand over drugs to a pedestrian near the school, said a news release. The driver also appeared to be smoking marijuana. The driver was soon arrested in a nearby parking lot and given a 24-hour driving prohibition. A subsequent searched turned up marijuana and evidence of drug trafficking, said RCMP. The driver disclosed to police that he was a teacher when he was arrested. Eugenio Alfonso Bahamonde, 41, has been charged with trafficking and possession of a controlled substance.

    On Nov. 7, Richmond RCMP's Property Crime Unit and Quick Response Team were in Vancouver on another investigation, when a vehicle approached and allegedly made a drug transaction with a pedestrian. The driver also appeared to be smoking a joint. The driver drove away and was pulled over in a neighbouring parking lot, where he was arrested. A search of his vehicle allegedly revealed marijuana and evidence of drug trafficking. Forty-one-year old Eugenio Alfonso Bahamonde has been charged with trafficking and possession of a controlled substance for the purposes of trafficking.

He has been charged with trafficking and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and is expected to appear in court on Jan. 16. Meantime, Surrey School District spokesman Doug Strachan said Bahamonde has been suspended from work.

A search after the suspect’s arrest uncovered marijuana and “evidence of drug trafficking,” according to a Richmond RCMP news release.

    Doug Strachan, a spokesman for the Surrey School Board, confirmed [Eugenio Alfonso] Bahamonde is a substitute teacher at Surrey area schools, but he did not know whether he worked at high schools or elementary schools. Bahamonde has been suspended from teaching in accordance with the School Act, said Strachan. According to the B.C. Teacher Regulation Branch, Bahamonde is certified to teach students in B.C. between Kindergarten and Grade 12.

Police say a search incidental to arrest revealed marijuana and evidence of drug trafficking. Forty-one-year old Eugenio Alfonso Bahamonde has been charged with trafficking and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

    A substitute teacher is facing charges for allegedly trafficking drugs near a Vancouver elementary school. According to Richmond RCMP, a man handed drugs to someone from his vehicle on November 7 outside Sir Guy Carleton Community Elementary School in Vancouver. A plainclothes officer saw the transaction. The suspect was pulled over by police and arrested in a nearby parking lot. Police said they found marijuana when they conducted a search. No information is known about the other person involved in the transaction, or whether that person was connected to the elementary school, said Cpl. Sherrdean Turley. Eugenio Alfonso Bahamonde, a 41-year-old substitute teacher with the Surrey School Board, has been charged with trafficking and possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Richmond RCMP news release narrates that soon after, a search confirmed the presence of marijuana and “evidence of drug trafficking.” Thereafter it was revealed, once the arrest was made, that the suspect that is a teacher.
