A Hamilton primary school teacher and mother of eight has appeared in court facing charges relating to an indecent relationship with a primary school student. Diane Brimble, 46, who has been suspended from her job as a teacher at a Hamilton primary school, appeared in the Hamilton Magistrate’s Court yesterday. She was charged with:​

• three counts of committing an indecent act with a child under 16, including hugging, stroking the child on the back of the neck and kissing the child’s cheek
• using a carriage service to procure a child under 16
• using a carriage service to transmit indecent communication to a child under the age of 16
• using a carriage service to groom a child under 16
• intentionally taking action that has resulted in the child suffering significant harm while being a person with a duty of care

The alleged offending occurred between January 1 and April 19 this year.​

The Standard: Woman bailed over alleged indecent acts on boy, 11 (Dec 5 2013)

A female primary school teacher faced a Hamilton court yesterday charged with committing indecent acts with an 11-year-old boy. Diane Marie Brimble, 46, of Hamilton, was charged with seven offences including being a person with a duty of care taking action that resulted in a child suffering significant harm and three counts of committing indecent acts. She has also been charged with using a carriage service (telecommunications devices) to procure a child aged under 16 years, to groom a child and to indecently communicate with a child.​

Police told the magistrate that Ms Brimble formed a relationship with the boy between January 1 this year and April 14. The matter was reported to police mid last month by the boy's mother and Ms Brimble was arrested last week. The charges allege that Ms Brimble kissed the boy, stroked the back of his neck and hugged him. Police do not believe a sexual relationship developed.​

Police allege that while the boy was staying at her home Ms [Diane Marie] Brimble exposed her breasts, tried to hug him and asked him to hop in bed with her. One charge alleges Ms Brimble asked the child to sleep with her and told him he could use items in a suitcase which contained a pregnancy test, condoms, truth or dare cards and sex toys. Ms Brimble is alleged to have grabbed the boy, hugged him, kissed him on the lips and stroked his head, neck, arms and the side of his body.​
