    NY Lawmakers OK Common Core teacher safety net

    Low-rated teachers in New York won't be at risk of losing their jobs based simply on student performance on the new Common Core tests - at least for a few years - under legislation passed by lawmakers. Gov. Andrew Cuomo's bill aims to prevent teachers deemed "ineffective" or "developing" from facing termination or a denial of tenure based solely on student test scores. The changes would only apply to the 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 school years.
