Dallas police officer who faces 2 capital murder charges ordered pair of hits in 2017, authorities allege

    4 March 2017

A Dallas police officer was arrested Thursday on two charges of capital murder after authorities said he ordered two hits in 2017. FBI disputes former chief's reason Dallas officer was left on duty during homicide investigations

A day after Dallas police arrested one of their own on capital murder charges, the FBI’s Special Agent in charge disputed a statement made by former Police Chief Renee Hall. Officer Bryan Riser is currently on administrative leave pending the outcome of an Internal Affairs administrative investigation, said Police Chief Eddie Garcia. Riser had been still working on patrol while the investigation in relation to the two murder cases was ongoing, Garcia said. A witness told Dallas police investigators in 2019 that Riser allegedly offered him thousands of dollars and instructed him to kill two victims, according to an arrest ...

Records show Dallas officer was under investigation in 2017

A Dallas police officer who was recently charged in an alleged murder-for-hire scheme was under investigation for longer than authorities have previously acknowledged, sharpening questions about why he continued to patrol the city as his colleagues looked into whether he was involved in a 2017 killing. After Bryan Riser was arrested Thursday, former Dallas police Chief U. Reneé Hall said he was “first identified as a person of interest in 2019” and was kept on the job to avoid tipping him off to the investigation. But in 2017, a Dallas police detective testified in court that Riser was the “subject” ...

Ex-Dallas cop arrested on capital murder charges to be released as prosecutors cite lack of evidence

A judge on Wednesday ordered the release of a former Dallas police officer who was arrested on capital murder charges for allegedly ordering two killings in 2017 after prosecutors agreed that they don't have enough evidence to move forward with the case. After listening to more than three hours of testimony by a Dallas homicide detective, Dallas County Criminal Court Judge Audrey Moorehead said there was no probable cause and ordered the release of Bryan Riser. The 13-year veteran of the Dallas Police Department was fired after his colleagues took him into custody in March, when he was charged in ...
