    Company charged for giving illegal payments for gathering signatures for Prop 208

    A company was charged with 50 misdemeanors on Oct. 29 for allegedly giving employees bonuses for gathering signatures for Proposition 208. Prop 208, which was passed following the Nov. 3 election, will increase income tax for high earners in order to fund teacher salaries and educational programs. Under this measure, a 3.5% income tax surcharge will be applied to taxable individual income for those making $250,000 for a single person or on married couples making $500,000.
